I highly recommend using the mounting bracket as it will hold the unit for you while installing and removing the filter housing.I also recommend using the AP 817 filters as these offer the highest level of filtration for this unit.Change the filter every 3 to 6 months.On each filter change, coat the o-ring with some petroleum jelly (vaseline) and change the ring when needed.I've used this product since I bought my house 5 years ago and so far it's been great for us.
