All Brita products perform their filtration function very well and city tap water tastes imeasurably better for having been through the Brita.I got this for a household of 3 adults two of whom have a medical condition requiring large daily intake of water. This eliminates having to lug gallon jugs from the grocery (at $.95+/gal) although I saved and use three of the milk jug gallon containers and "decant" filtered water from the Brita to keep in a second refrigerator. The Brita instructions caution that the unit will handle no more than 2 gallons per day.By keeping 2 spare gallon jugs and the Brita itself full and refrigerated I always have a fresh gallon to replace the empties. This brings me to the one negative: while it's true the filtered water reservoir (clear lower tank) holds the specified 144 oz., the discharge valve loses suction right about one gallon (128 oz) and the remainder can be accessed only by tilting the whole unit. The other half of this negative is that the upper reservoir (the upper white plastic housing)can only be filled to 3/4 gal at a time or the unfiltered water overflows (via a trough) into the filtered water below. So if you plan to refill in gallon increments you have to pause at about 3/4 gal and wait a minute or two before adding the final 1/4 gallon. Our city water is reasonably good to begin with, and at a gallon per day, the filter cartridges last about 3 months as Brita predicts.
